Italian-American Comedian Jay Leno to Headline Carneval Venezia 2023

Renowned late-night talk show host and comedian, Jay Leno, has been appointed as the honorary "godfather" of the Carnival Venezia cruise ship. Carnival Cruise Line made the exciting announcement today, revealing that Leno will receive this special title during a celebratory event on June 14, 2023, marking the ship's blessing and inaugural voyage from New York City. The Carnival Venezia is the first ship to incorporate "Carnival Fun Italian Style," a unique blend of Carnival's signature entertainment with the vessel's stunning Italian theming. Leno will not only serve as the godfather but will also delight the event guests with an exclusive comedy show presented in partnership with Carnival® World Mastercard®.
Carnival Cruise Line President, Christine Duffy, explained the rationale behind the decision, stating, "Carnival Venezia originally entered service for our Italian sister brand Costa Cruises and was christened in 2019, so she already has a godmother. With Carnival Venezia joining the fleet and sailing from New York, we wanted to ensure a proper welcome for the ship and decided having a godfather would be both fun and appropriate." Recognizing Leno's Italian heritage and his ability to bring joy to any occasion, he was deemed the perfect choice for the role.
